MTN increase monthly social media data price in South Africa

A couple of months ago, MTN South Africa launched new Social data bundles on its network. The bundle include the 1GB WhatsApp social data bundle which is priced at 10 South African Rand. Well MTN has just announced a 300% increase for the bundle. As of now the MTN 1GB Monthly WhatsApp bundle now cost 30 South African Rand.

MTN 1GB monthly social media data bundle price sees a 300% increase in South Africa

A few months ago, MTN South Africa launched new Social data bundles on its network. One of them is the 1GBG bundle priced at R10.

The telecom operator has announced a 300% increase in the price of the package. As such, the MTN 1GB Monthly WhatsApp Bundle package now costs R30.

MTN South Africa’s social data bundles give you exclusive access to various social media such as  WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter, depending on which one you actually prefer.

The 1GB Monthly WhatsApp data bundle is exclusively restricted to WhatsApp only and it has a 30-day validity period.

Aside from the 30 days IGB WhatsApp data bundle there are also other what data bundle which are; 1 day WhatsApp data bundle which gives give you 20mb data and the 7 days WhatsApp data bundle which give you 100MB data for one week. They both cost 1 and 5 South African Rand respectively.

According to an update from MTN South Africa official Twitter account, they had to increase the bundle due to the increase in WhatsApp usage all across South Africa and the resultant pressure/effect this has been has been having on the MTN Network capacity.

Ever since the bundle was increased there has been a backlash from subscribers across the country,  with some even threatening to move to other networks providers.
