Facebook launches watch video-streaming service globally to compete with YouTube
The Facebook Watch was only limited to the United States, but now Facebook has decided to give a global roll-out of the Watch streaming services.
With the global roll-out of Watch, Facebook can spread the availability of the streaming feature and give YouTube a run for its services.
Watch has many similarities just like the YouTube as it allows its users to watch video contents from other creators and also the original contents from Facebook itself.
The video streaming feature will also show episodes with a storyline, it users will be able to subscribe to channels just like they’ve been doing on YouTube and also choose from a range of shows and view clips saved from the News Feeds of established brands and new ones.
Facebook will allow all the content makers on the platform to feature adverts on their channels depending on their level of traffic and the revenue will be shared between the creators and Facebook with 55% going to the creators and 45% to Facebook.
Looking at the popularity and high usage of Facebook, it is believed that Watch will compete with other established video streaming services like YouTube, cable TV channels and online video streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Video BBC iPlayer, and Facebook’s own Instagram TV.
Facebook claims that its advantage against other platforms is the ways Watch helps viewers interact with others.
According to Fidji Simo, Facebook’s vice-president of video,
It is built on the notion that watching the video doesn’t have to be a passive experience
You can have a two-way conversation about the content with friends, other fans or even the creators themselves.
