LG to deliver the first 5G smartphone in the US by early next year
The race for the first smartphone to feature the 5G network is really heating up as every OEM is working hard to be the first to unveil a 5G enabled device. LG is not left out in this race as they have just announced a collaboration with Sprint to deliver the first 5G smartphone in the United States.
LG plans to introduce the 5G smartphone by the first half of 2019, but the device to feature the 5G network is still unknown as no specification or release date has been announced. The little information available is that a Snapdragon chipset will power the new phone since Qualcomm already unveiled its X50 modem with 5 Gbps speeds.
The 5G network is expected to deliver a faster and more responsive network that should boost a wave of new technologies including self-driving cars, streaming VR and telemedicine once the service actually launches, which explains the reason why every network provider and OEM are getting on the race to launch it.
But when it comes to the 5G network, it’s a good news and bad news situation, according to reports for the MWC 2018 event.
The good news is that the 5G network will be a reality soon because network providers like Verizon and AT&T plan to launch limited mobile 5G service this year, then by early next year, T-Mobile and Sprint are planning a commercial launch of the 5G network. Smartphone makers like LG, Samsung and Nokia are already getting ready to launch devices on the new 5G network by early next year.
But the bad news is, The early days of 5G might not be as interesting as people envision it to be, and those promised insane speeds may not show up consistently or at all. This point was made by the network experts at MWC events, which means patience is the key.
