NCC set to combat widespread of sub-standard phones in Nigeria
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has on Sunday set up a committee to combat the proliferation of fake and substandard mobile devices in the country.
The Body shows its dissatisfaction against the importation and marketing of “ICT” Information and Communication Technology devices, thereby making available on its website the approved list of some mobile devices that are of standard usage and that meets up with the standard mobile requirements within the country.
NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Nnamadi Nwokike, said the Commission will commence the enforcement of its regulations against the continuous proliferation of substandard mobile phones and devices in the country.
Prior to this development, NCC had earlier warned Nigerians against the use of Substandard mobile devices within the country that is of lower quality, less privileged, refurbished or counterfeit mobile phones because it is believed to cause cancer and some other hazards to human health.
