Vivo, a Chinese smartphone maker is said to be working on a new 120W Super FlashCharge technology that has the ability to fill 50% of a 4,000 mAh battery phone in 5 minutes while it only needs 13 minutes to reach 100%.

A glimpse of how the new 120W Super FlashCharge technology from Vivo works was posted on Weibo by Vivo’s product manager. The video showcases a phone charging rapidly from about 10% to 14% in just about 16 seconds.

The video does not show a full charge cycle like Xiaomi showed off, but getting so much juice within a matter of seconds is really commendable. The poster released by Vivo claims that it can charge a 4,000 mAh battery in just 13 minutes, which would be faster than Xiaomi’s technology.

Recall in last year, we saw OnePlus reaching 30W, Huawei did 40W on their flagships and the Oppo Find X was the first phone with the fast 50W SuperVOOC Flash Charge. Xiaomi also teased a Turbo technology that can charge a dead phone from 0% to 100% in 17 minutes earlier in March 2019.

Now, Vivo is coming with a new Super FlashCharge technology that would be the fastest charging in the world. Vivo is said to be doing a Live demo display of this new technology in MWC Shanghai 2019, which is taking place next week.

Vivo is expected to demo the tech in front of people, alongside an actual 5G smartphone, and not just some modification of an already existing device, like it did back in December.

The 120W charging rate might sound interesting in theory, but we think it might need some extra time before coming to actual products. Ultra-fast charging usually generates a lot of heat, which makes it hard to fit within the thermal constraints of a modern day smartphone.
